Receipts: The Fed Chairman Refused to Answer. The Market Answered for Him. The Hold, the 10-2 Vote, the 10-Year Through 5, and Every Number With a Date Next to It. (Wednesday, October 28, 2026)

The paperwork behind Wednesday night’s video, on YouTube and TikTok. Recorded Wednesday night, October 28, after the 2:00 decision and the 2:30 press conference, on the day the Fed held. Every number said on camera is in the tables below with the time it was true and the document it came from. Where a figure comes from a wire, a data vendor or a trade publication rather than the official record, it says so.

The three numbers at the door

What I saidThe recordSource
Your mortgage is 7.32.Freddie Mac’s Primary Mortgage Market Survey for the week of October 22, 2026: 30-year fixed 7.32 percent, down from 7.40 the week before. 15-year fixed 6.68 percent. The next survey posts Thursday, October 29, at noon Eastern.Freddie Mac, PMMS
Your gas is 4.25. Diesel is 6.35.AAA national average on October 28, 2026: regular $4.247, diesel $6.350. The day before, regular was $4.266.AAA Gas Prices
The 10-year, the government loan your mortgage is built on, sat above 5 percent the entire time he was talking. The Treasury’s daily par yield curve puts the 10-year at 4.99 percent on October 27 and 5.05 percent on October 28. Live quotes during the afternoon read 5.02 at 1:44 PM and 5.04 at 2:27 PM Eastern, as carried in live market coverage; those are vendor quotes, not the official close.U.S. Treasury, daily par yield curve, October 2026; Yahoo Finance live market coverage, October 28, 2026 (vendor, named, not linked)

One. What the Fed did

What I saidThe recordSource
In September it raised interest rates, the price of money, for the first time since 2023.The FOMC statement of September 16, 2026 raised the target range by a quarter point to 3-3/4 to 4 percent; the Fed’s open market operations table lists the increase as effective September 17, 2026. The previous increase on that table is July 27, 2023, to 5.25 to 5.50 percent. The September vote was unanimous, as the Reuters poll write-up notes.FOMC statement, September 16, 2026; Federal Reserve, open market operations
The Strait of Hormuz, the strip of water the oil ships use to leave the Middle East, has been shut since February. The crisis began with the February 28, 2026 strikes on Iran. As compiled in the public record of the crisis, vessel traffic through the strait was about 70 percent below pre-war levels per the UK Maritime Trade Operations report of October 16, with 12 attacks on vessels in the prior seven days; IMF PortWatch transit counts are the underlying data. “Shut” is shorthand for a strait most shipowners will not sail; a handful of transits still occur.2026 Strait of Hormuz crisis (Wikipedia, secondary compilation); IMF PortWatch (named, not linked)
Before the war, Brent, the oil price the rest of the world pays, was 72 dollars a barrel. Today it settled at 115.December Brent settled at $115.32 on October 28, 2026, up 1.3 percent; December WTI settled at $102.78, up 2.9 percent, as reported. The 72: the crisis record shows Brent at $71.57 on July 1, 2026, after a March 31 peak of $118.35. The late-February price before the strikes is not in the sources on this page; see the clarifications.Bloomberg via Rigzone, October 28, 2026 (wire); 2026 Strait of Hormuz crisis (Wikipedia, secondary)
Prices are up from a year ago, and the government’s own report said gasoline by itself was more than half of last month’s jump. The Consumer Price Index for September 2026, released October 14: all items up 3.7 percent over the last 12 months; the gasoline index rose 9.1 percent in the month, “accounting for over half of the monthly all items increase.” On camera the yearly number came out as “3 percent”; the number is 3.7.Bureau of Labor Statistics, Consumer Price Index, September 2026, released October 14, 2026 (named, not linked)
Today at 2:00 the Fed held. Left it where it was. Vote was 10 to 2, and the 2 wanted to raise today. The FOMC statement of October 28, 2026 maintained the target range at 3-3/4 to 4 percent and said “Inflation remains elevated.” Voting against the action were Lisa D. Cook and Beth M. Hammack, “who preferred to raise the target range for the federal funds rate by 1/4 percentage point at this meeting.” Released at 2:00 PM Eastern.FOMC statement, October 28, 2026

Two. What the chairman said

What I saidThe recordSource
2:30, somebody asked him about December. His exact words, as reported: I don’t believe in prejudging meetings. That’s the whole answer. As reported by Reuters, the chairman said of forward guidance, “In normal, ordinary times, especially times where the underlying real economy is this strong, I don’t believe in it. I don’t favor it,” and added, “I also don’t believe in prejudging meetings.” Asked directly about the December 8 and 9 meeting, per CBS News: “A lot of things can happen, so I’m not going to be able to share with you my musings about what happens when this group gets together six weeks from now.” The Fed’s own posted record so far is the preliminary opening statement only; the question-and-answer portion posts later.Reuters via AOL, October 28, 2026 (wire); CBS News, October 28, 2026; Federal Reserve, press conference opening statement, October 28, 2026 (PDF)
Reuters polled 100 economists last week. 100 out of 100 said another hike in December. The Reuters poll taken October 16 to 20, 2026: all 100 respondents expected the Fed to hold at 3.75 to 4.00 percent on October 28, and all 100 expected a rate increase in December, up from fewer than half in the September poll.Reuters poll via SRN News, October 2026 (wire, syndicated)

Three. What the money did

What I saidThe recordSource
At 2:00 the written decision comes out. Gold drops, about 15 dollars, straight down, because the statement said inflation remains elevated.Kitco’s 2:01 PM report: spot gold last traded at $4,035.48 after the statement, down 0.60 percent on the session, from about $4,048 to $4,050 just before the release. The statement’s words are “Inflation remains elevated.”Kitco News, October 28, 2026, 2:01 PM (industry); FOMC statement, October 28, 2026
Then 2:30, he talks live, and gold climbs all the way back. By the close it’s sitting around 4,050, flat on the day.Kitco’s evening wrap, carrying Reuters: spot gold near $4,056.80 an ounce, down $2.50, or 0.06 percent, “at the time of writing,” with the recovery credited to the press conference and a softer dollar. Spot silver $53.72, down 1.07 percent.Kitco News, October 28, 2026, evening (industry/wire)
The dollar barely moved. The euro actually hit its high of the day while he was talking.FXStreet’s evening note: “EUR/USD made its session high during his press conference,” on the one day in six that the pair finished up; the dollar slipped against the euro during the question-and-answer session, as reported.FXStreet, October 28, 2026 (industry)
The 10-year IOU went from 4.99 last night to 5.05 at the close. Through 5. A number it hadn’t seen since 2007. It was already over 5 before he sat down, and it kept climbing while he talked.Treasury par yield curve: 10-year 4.99 on October 27, 5.05 on October 28. On the same table the last reading at or above 5.00 before this fall was July 19, 2007 (5.04); the 10-year first came back to 5.00 on September 15, 2026 and reached 5.31 on October 5 before falling back under 5 on October 22 and 27. The afternoon path (5.02 at 1:44 PM, 5.04 at 2:27 PM) is from live vendor quotes. See the clarifications on “since 2007.”U.S. Treasury, daily par yield curve, October 2026; Yahoo Finance live market coverage (vendor, named, not linked)
The bet on December? Before the meeting the money had it at 78 percent. By the close, 86.CME FedWatch, as read by the press: the probability of any increase at the December 9 meeting was 78.3 percent at the October 27 close and 86.0 percent at the October 28 close, after 94.8 percent on October 21. Intraday readings on October 28 ran 81 to 85 percent depending on the hour.Daily Economics, October 28, 2026 (press reading of CME FedWatch); CME FedWatch tool (named, not linked)
The losing trader sold gold at the bottom at 2:05 and bought it back at 3:15, higher, from the guy who didn’t flinch. An illustration, not a record. The low of the afternoon printed after the 2:00 statement (Kitco, $4,035.48) and the recovery came during and after the 2:30 press conference (Kitco evening wrap, $4,056.80). No trade, line or level is claimed; the times are a picture of a reaction trade.Kitco, 2:01 PM; Kitco, evening (industry)

Four. Your mortgage

What I saidThe recordSource
Your rate rides on that 10-year IOU, not on the Fed’s rate. The Fed sets what banks pay each other overnight. Your mortgage copies the 10-year. Two different numbers, and today only one of them moved. The federal funds rate is the overnight rate between banks; the Fed’s target range stayed at 3.75 to 4.00 percent on October 28. A 30-year fixed mortgage is priced off long-term yields, with the 10-year Treasury the usual reference; this week’s pair is 7.32 (Freddie Mac, October 22) against 5.05 (Treasury, October 28). The 10-year moved six basis points on the day; the funds target did not move.FOMC statement, October 28, 2026; Freddie Mac, PMMS; U.S. Treasury, daily par yield curve
Your new mortgage number comes out tomorrow at noon.Freddie Mac publishes the Primary Mortgage Market Survey every Thursday at noon Eastern. The next release is Thursday, October 29, 2026.Freddie Mac, PMMS

Has this happened before? 2022

What I saidThe recordSource
2022. The Fed raised rates seven times in one year, more than 4 full percent.The Fed’s open market operations table for 2022: March 17 (+25), May 5 (+50), June 16 (+75), July 28 (+75), September 22 (+75), November 3 (+75), December 15 (+50). Seven increases, 425 basis points, from 0 to 0.25 percent to 4.25 to 4.50 percent.Federal Reserve, open market operations
The dollar went to its highest in 20 years. The U.S. Dollar Index reached 114.78 on September 28, 2022, its highest since 2002, as reported; FXStreet’s note of September 30, 2022 refers to the recovery being “capped by 114.77.”FXStreet, September 30, 2022 (industry)
Gold dropped 22 percent, down to about 1,615 that fall.USGS, citing the Engelhard daily price: the 2022 high was $2,029 on March 8; the lows were $1,637 on September 27 and 28, $1,633 on October 21 and $1,626 on November 3. On the spot market, as carried by the wires, gold touched about $2,070 on March 8 and about $1,615 on September 28, 2022; that pair is the 22 percent. On the USGS series the fall is 2,029 to 1,626, about 20 percent.USGS, Gold Mineral Industry Survey, November 2022 (PDF)
Gold tonight is 4,050. Two and a half times that low.$4,056.80 (Kitco, evening of October 28, 2026) divided by $1,615 is 2.51.Kitco News, October 28, 2026 (industry); computed

The clock

What I saidThe recordSource
Tomorrow 8:30, we find out how fast the country grew over the summer, and the inflation number the Fed actually reads, the one it’s trying to get back down to 2 percent.BEA release schedule: Thursday, October 29, 2026, 8:30 AM, GDP (Advance Estimate), third quarter 2026; the same morning, Personal Income and Outlays, September 2026, which carries the PCE price index. And December 9th, the one the chairman wouldn’t say and the money already circled. The FOMC calendar lists the next meeting as December 8 and 9, 2026, with a Summary of Economic Projections. The statement comes out at 2:00 PM Eastern on the second day.Federal Reserve, FOMC calendar

Scripture read on camera

Read on cameraKing James textSource
1 Chronicles 12:32“And of the children of Issachar, which were men that had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do; the heads of them were two hundred; and all their brethren were at their commandment.”Bible Gateway, 1 Chronicles 12:32 (KJV)
Luke 12:56“Ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky and of the earth; but how is it that ye do not discern this time?”Bible Gateway, Luke 12:56 (KJV)
Genesis 41:29–30 (Joseph reads the dream)“Behold, there come seven years of great plenty throughout all the land of Egypt: And there shall arise after them seven years of famine; and all the plenty shall be forgotten in the land of Egypt; and the famine shall consume the land.”Bible Gateway, Genesis 41:29–30 (KJV)
Genesis 41:57“And all countries came into Egypt to Joseph for to buy corn; because that the famine was so sore in all lands.”Bible Gateway, Genesis 41:57 (KJV)
Proverbs 27:12“A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished.”Bible Gateway, Proverbs 27:12 (KJV)
Psalm 112:7“He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD.”Bible Gateway, Psalm 112:7 (KJV)

Nodded to, from earlier videos: Haggai 2:8 (“The silver is mine, and the gold is mine”), Isaiah 45:3 (“the treasures of darkness”), Isaiah 45:11 (“command ye me”) and Psalm 127:2 (“he giveth his beloved sleep”). All King James Version.

Clarifications, owned

  • “Prices are up 3 percent from a year ago” is what came out on camera. The September CPI number is 3.7 percent. The 3.7 is what was meant and what the table says.
  • “Gold drops about 15 dollars” at 2:00 is a round number. Kitco’s print shows roughly $4,048 just before the statement and $4,035.48 just after, a drop of about 13 dollars at that moment; the afternoon low may have been a touch lower than the 2:01 print.
  • “Around 4,050, flat on the day” at the close is Kitco’s $4,056.80, down $2.50, taken “at the time of writing.” Another evening wrap put spot gold near $4,078. Spot gold has no official settlement; the number depends on who wrote it down and when.
  • “78 percent before the meeting, 86 by the close” are press readings of the CME FedWatch tool at the October 27 and October 28 closes. Other readings taken during the day on October 28 ran 81 to 86 percent. A week earlier it read 94.8. The tool is named rather than linked because the CME pages refuse automated link checks.
  • “I don’t believe in prejudging meetings” is the chairman’s wording as reported by Reuters, said in an answer about forward guidance; the direct December answer, per CBS, was that he would not “share with you my musings about what happens when this group gets together six weeks from now.” The Fed’s own posted record so far is the preliminary opening statement only. “No comment in a nicer suit” is my sentence, not his.
  • “A number it hadn’t seen since 2007” is about the 5 percent level itself. Before September 15, 2026, the last 10-year par yield at or above 5.00 was July 19, 2007. Since September 15 the 10-year has crossed 5 several times, including 5.31 on October 5 (the number on receipt 34, which quoted a 5.34 intraday print from CNBC). Wednesday’s move was from 4.99 back through 5, not a first visit, and the line should have said so.
  • “Shut since February” is shorthand. The strikes were February 28; traffic through the strait is about 70 percent below pre-war per UKMTO’s October 16 report, and a small number of ships still transit. The crisis page used as the source is a secondary compilation; the transit counts underneath it are IMF PortWatch’s.
  • “Before the war, Brent was 72 dollars” could not be tied to a late-February document on this page. The crisis record shows Brent at $71.57 on July 1, 2026, after the March 31 peak of $118.35. The 72 is owned as a round number for where Brent sat when the strait was open; the dated pre-strike print is not here.
  • “For the first time since 2023” is the September 2026 increase; the one before it was July 2023. The September statement is dated the 16th; the Fed’s open market table lists it as effective the 17th.
  • “Two of his own people voted against him” is the two dissents, Governor Cook and Cleveland Fed President Hammack, who preferred a quarter-point increase. A dissent is a vote against the action, not against the chairman personally; “against him” is my phrasing.
  • “Gold dropped 22 percent, down to about 1,615” in 2022 is the spot market’s March 8 high near 2,070 against the September 28 low near 1,615, as the wires carried them. The USGS table linked above uses the Engelhard daily price, which puts the same fall at 2,029 to 1,626, about 20 percent.
  • “Sold gold at the bottom at 2:05 and bought it back at 3:15” is a picture of a reaction trade, not a record of one. No line, trigger, level or exit is given anywhere in the video.
  • The 10-year’s afternoon readings (5.02 at 1:44, 5.04 at 2:27) are live vendor quotes; the Treasury’s 5.05 is the official close.
  • Where the automatic captions of the tape differ from what was meant (“Isaacar” for Issachar, “ruders” for Reuters, “forty fifty” for 4,050, “race today” for raise today, “TradedBanks.com” for tradewithbanks.com), the meaning is what is written here and the tape is left as spoken.
  • The BLS and CME pages are named rather than linked because those pages refuse automated link checks.
