Receipts: Fed Day, Graded — Two O’Clock Did Nothing, Two-Thirty Did Everything (September 16, 2026)
The paperwork behind the Fed-day video on TikTok, recorded at about 3:15 PM ET on September 16 and posted before the close. The video graded Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday morning against what happened, owned three misses, and set up Friday. The numbers below are what I read at 3:15, plus the 4 PM close I said I wouldn’t call until the bell.
The decision, verbatim
| Item | The record | Source |
|---|---|---|
| The rate | Raised by a quarter point to 3.75–4.00%, the first hike since July 2023 | Federal Reserve statement, September 16, 2 PM ET |
| The vote | 12–0. No dissents. The pre-meeting setup had allowed for one to three. | Federal Reserve statement |
| The statement’s inflation line | “Inflation remains elevated.” The July reference to energy supply shocks was removed. New line: “Today’s policy action will support a timelier return to the Committee’s 2 percent goal.” | Federal Reserve statement |
| The dots, end of 2026 | Median 4.1% (June: 3.8%). 12 of 18 officials at one more hike this year; 4 at two more; 2 at none; zero at a cut. | Summary of Economic Projections |
| The dots, end of 2027 | Median 4.1% (June: 3.6%). June’s median implied a cut next year; that is gone. | Summary of Economic Projections |
| Warsh on more hikes | “I’m not in the forward guidance business.” | Press conference, 2:30 PM ET |
| Warsh on whether money is expensive enough | “I would be hard-pressed to describe broad financial conditions as restrictive.” | Opening statement PDF |
| Warsh on oil | “We cannot affect any individual price, whether it be oil prices, whether it be foodstuffs at the grocery store. But what we can do and will do is ensure that any change in relative prices don’t broaden out.” | Press conference |
| Warsh on the president | “I’m not a Wall Street newsletter. Part of the independence of the Federal Reserve is we stay in our lane. Independence is a two-way street.” | Press conference |
| Warsh on inflation | “The plain fact is that inflation is too high and has been for too long.” | Opening statement PDF |

Sources: exchange one-minute data for the sector ETFs and indexes; the U.S. Treasury for the yield close (2-year 4.74%, +7 basis points; 30-year 5.35%, −1). One note on gold: the official December futures settlement printed $4,387.50, up 1.26%, because settlement is struck at 1:30 PM, before the decision. Everything after 2 PM was down. If you look up “gold on Fed day” you will see green; the green happened before the Fed spoke.
The grades and the three misses
- Monday said dollar up, gold down, stocks down on a hike. Wednesday: dollar through 100, gold down after 2 PM, Dow −631. Graded correct.
- Monday said every 2026 Fed day closed red. Wednesday’s S&P closed −0.45%. Six for six.
- Tuesday said the number is priced in and the tone moves it. Two o’clock: a twenty-second dip bought back in five minutes. Two-thirty to three-fifteen: every sector red. Graded correct.
- Tuesday said one color is the Fed, two colors is a story. At 3:15 it was one color. At 4:00 tech and health care had crawled back to green by a tenth of a percent, and the Nasdaq closed down three points. A commenter called the 4 PM part before I did. He was right.
- Miss one: Tuesday said gold gets lonely when the Fed gets tough; gold rose 1.2% Wednesday morning and was wrong for six hours before falling.
- Miss two: the 2 AM video quoted the industry oil-stockpile count (+7.1 million barrels); the official count at 10:30 said −0.6 million.
- Miss three: the streak count. The Monday video said four for four; there had been five meetings, all red. The count was short by one; the streak was real.

How to check these yourself
The statement and the dot plot are posted at 2 PM ET on decision day at the Federal Reserve. The press conference is on the Fed’s video page; the opening statement is a four-page PDF. Yields close at the U.S. Treasury. The headcount that answers “did the crowd run” is the CFTC report, Fridays at 3:30 PM ET, and it shows positions as of the prior Tuesday.
